The elderly Perth man who was brutally bashed by a stranger outside his home in a south eastern suburb of Perth has died.

Emiliano Lombardi was left bruised and bloodied after he was assaulted outside his East Cannington home on August 16.

The 84-year-old had gone out the front of his home to investigate a disturbance when the sickening attack happened.

Images of Mr Lombardi sitting on his bed covered in blood and bruises shocked the Perth community.

Homicide Squad have taken charge of the investigation and WA Police said charges may be upgraded.

Mr Lombardi’s son Don said after the incident that this crime had impacted the community greatly as it “hit home because it could be anyone.”

Mr Lombardi lived alone and was a keen gardener, who would often share his home-grown fruit and vegetables with his neighbours on Henry Street.
