NEW DELHI: There will be no change in Covid-19 containment measures in the capital till Wednesday, Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) ordered on Monday.
Further orders are likely to be released after this to allow Delhi Metro resume services in a phased manner, a source said. The Union home ministry has permitted the metros across the country to operate from September 7.
All economic activities, now permitted in the city — latest being hotels and weekly markets — will continue to function. “The government of Delhi has reviewed the present situation of Covid-19 and it has been considered appropriate to continue the restrictions” on the activities presently not permitted and maintain the status quo till September 2, the order stated. A direction has been issued to all district magistrates and authorities concerned to strictly enforce the status quo.
The development has disappointed thousands of gym and yoga centre owners who have been urging the authorities for weeks to allow them to resume operations.
The government has already extended the trial period of weekly markets, which were opened on August 24 after a tussle between the elected government and the lieutenant governor. The trial period has now been extended by a week to September 6.
DDMA has extended the complete lockdown in all containment zones till September 30. The city currently has 833 containment zones.
Delhi government wants to allow more economic activities to give the economy a boost and create more livelihood options, said a source. Even the home ministry has permitted more economic activities under Unlock 4.0.
