Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka made quite a statement at the US Open 2020 opening night when she walked out with a Breonna Taylor mask on at the Arthur Ashe Stadium for her opening-round clash against Japan’s Misaki Doi on Monday (August 31). Athletes across the globe have been doing their part in promoting the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement.
Osaka, who has been doing her part to raise awareness, was seen wearing a black mask with Breonna Taylor’s name written across the front - an African American who was shot dead by cops in her bed earlier this year in May.

The death of Taylor, George Floyd by the police in May and the Jacob Blake shooting from earlier this month, sparked massive outrage all across America. Osaka joined her voice with other athletes around the sporting world and walked out of her semifinal clash at the Western and Southern Open to protest Blake’s shooting.
The 22-year-old, after missing out in her second set, came back strong in the third to defeat Misaki Doi 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 to book her place in the next round of the US Open 2020.
