GURUGRAM: The Haryana government is planning to develop two new industrial model townships in Sonipat district. The townships will be developed over 5,600 acres in Gohana and Gannaur.
With Gurugram and Faridabad already crowded, the government has zoomed in on Sonipat as an alternative for setting up industrial hubs, as it has ample availability of land and boasts of connectivity to Delhi-NCR through the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway.
In a notice issued for the project earlier this month, the Haryana State Industry and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) had stated that an area measuring a total of 5,600 acres has been identified for the two IMTs. An IMT is already being developed in the district’s Kharkoda area.
While HSIIDC chief Anurag Agarwal could not be reached for a comment, officials within HSIIDC confirmed the development. “The state government will be acquiring the land for the project through the land pooling policy,” an HSIIDC official said.
“Interested landowners and aggregators can submit applications on the e-Bhoomi portal till September 30,” the notice issued by the corporation stated.
Under the state government’s land pooling policy, landowners can offer their land to the government, which will develop it and offer a portion of the developed land back to the owners. For instance, if a landowner offers ten acres, the government will use around 40% of the land for development of sewage, water and electricity infrastructure, and the remaining land will be divided between the government and the landowner.
“Sonipat is the only place with land availability, and it is well connected with the national capital and states like UP and Rajasthan through the KMP Expressway,” the HSIIDC official said.
