Noida: The Confederation of All Indian Traders (CAIT) wrote to the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday proposing the formulation of a concrete toy manufacturing policy to give a boost to the domestic toy industry.
According to the traders’ body, the annual turnover of the Indian toy industry is Rs 25,000 crore. Of this, 65% is captured by the Chinese toy industry. “We need a national toy policy and the constitution of an expert committee to make an in-depth study of the toy industry in India and give a big push to the domestic toy industry,” CAIT-NCR convenor Sushil Kumar Jain said.
“India manufactures roughly 30% of the toys which are indigenously consumed. We have about 6,000 toy manufacturers in India. The main problem for the Indian toy industry is that Indian toys are mechanical and international toys are electronic, which are in great demand,” Jain said.
