Former President of the country Pranab Mukherjee died at the age of 84 on Monday. Pranab Mukherjee was the 13th President of the country, always thinking of national interest, beyond political discrimination. While President, he took some decisions for which he will always remain in the memory of the people and his name will be taken with respect.

Kasab, Afzal Guru and Yakub Menon hanged

While President, Mukherjee played a key role in getting terrorists Ajmal Kasab, Afzal Guru, and Yakub Menon hanged. He immediately stamped the death sentence of Mumbai 26/11 terrorist attack convict Ajmal Kasab, Parliament House attack convict Afzal Guru and 1993 Mumbai serial blasts convict Yakub Menon. Kasab was hanged in 2012, Afzal in 2013, R. Menon in 2015.

Refused to give pardon in two cases of misdeeds

During the entire term of the presidency, Mukherjee received around 37 pardon petitions. In most of these, he upheld the sentence pronounced by the court. At the end of his tenure, he had received clemency petitions in two misdemeanor cases, but in these cases, he flatly refused to grant pardon. One of these cases was from Indore in Madhya Pradesh and the other was from Pune in Maharashtra.

Gave life to four people while the president

Pranab Mukherjee, while president, had converted the death sentence of four people to life imprisonment. His decision is still considered a bold decision. In 1992, four people were found guilty of murdering upper caste people in Bihar. In 2017, in this case, on the occasion of New Year, it was decided to convert the sentence of Krishna Mochi, Nanhe Lal Mochi, Veer Kunwar Paswan, and Dharmendra Singh to life imprisonment in this case.
