Many former MPs and MLAs from DMK are ready to join BJP, Murugan says

COIMBATORE: Many former MPs and MLAs from other parties, especially from the DMK, are ready to join the BJP, said party state president L Murugan on Tuesday.
“By December-January, there is a possibility of a change in Tamil Nadu politics,” the BJP leader said.
Murugan was addressing reporters at the Coimbatore BJP office after paying respects to the former president Pranab Mukherjee, who passed away on Monday, and the 18th century freedom fighter Poolithevan.
BJP’s strength has increased, he said. “We have conducted a survey, and it says we can possibly win in 60 constituencies on our own. We consider the Kongu belt to be our stronghold,” he said.
The BJP was getting ready for the assembly elections and was on a drive to strengthen its organisation at the Sakthi Kendran-level, Murugan said.
“From last month, BJP state representatives have been travelling to hold discussions with Shakthi Kendran-level representatives,” he said.
When asked about BJP national secretary H Raja’s accusation that state ministers were ‘crossing their line’ while talking about BJP, Murugan said: “We have a coalition, so ministers should not make statements which could break the coalition. Their statements should be affable,” he said.
However, Murugan said the BJP-AIADMK alliance was strong as of now. “Alliance talks had not yet started. The alliance is the same as now. We have no problems,” he said.
When asked whether V K Sasikala’s properties being attached by the Benami Prohibition Unit of the income tax department, was a political act, Murugan said the agency of law was doing its job and there was no politics in it.
Responding to a question on cases being filed against the BJP for organising gatherings during the lockdown, Murugan said in that instance, cases have to be filed against all MPs, MLAs, and political leaders as every one of them had organised gatherings.
