Coronavirus India Live Updates: India now has over 36.91 lakh coronavirus cases, after 69,921 infections were reported in the last 24 hours. 28,39,882 patients have recovered from the infection in the country.

In the last 24 hours, 819 Covid-linked deaths were reported,  pushing the total death count to 65,288.

Maharashtra remains the state hit hardest by the pandemic, with 7,92,541 COVID -19 cases, including 24,583 deaths. Maharashttra is followed by three southern states - Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. India is the country with the third-highest coronavirus caseload in the world after the United States and Brazil.

Global coronavirus infections have soared past 2.54 crore, as countries tighten restrictions to halt the health crisis that has upended life for most of humanity.

The US remains the country hit hardest by far by the health crisis gripping the world, with 1,83,203 deaths, the Baltimore-based university's tracker showed.

2,734 New COVID-19 Cases In Telangana; 9 More Deaths
Telangana posted 2,734 new COVID- 19 cases and 9 related fatalities, taking the tally of thosebinfected by the virus in the state to 1.27 lakh.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 347, followed by Rangareddy 212, Nalgonda 191, Khammam 161 and Medchal Malkajgiri 121 districts, a government bulletin said on Tuesday, providing data as of 8 pm on August 31.

As many as 58,264 samples were tested on August 31.

Cumulatively, 14.23 lakh samples have been tested till date. The samples tested per million population was 38,351, the bulletin said.

Schools, Colleges Reopen After Months Of Covid Lockdown In England
Hundreds of thousands of children and young people across England are set to resume their classes at schools and colleges from Tuesday after months of lockdown imposed to curb the spread of coronavirus since March.

The Department for Education said pupils will return to school environments with a "system of controls" in place to keep all pupils, teachers and staff safe by minimising direct contacts and maintaining social distancing wherever possible.

Face coverings will be mandatory in communal areas and corridors at schools and colleges within areas of the country deemed at high risk of Covid-19 infections.

"For many, today marks the first day of a new school year, with thousands of children set to walk through their school gates again as schools across the country begin to reopen for full-time education for all pupils," said UK Education Secretary Gavin Williamson.

Odisha Reports 2,602 New COVID-19 Cases, 10 More Deaths
At least 2,602 people, including a minister and an MLA, tested positive for COVID-19 in Odisha on Monday, taking the tally in the coastal state to 1,03,536, a health department official said.

The death count rose to 492, after 10 more people died due to the infection, he said.

The state also registered the highest single-day recovery of 4,053 COVID-19 patients taking the total number of people cured of the disease to 77,286.

The recovery rate improved to 74.64 per cent from 72.55 per cent on Sunday.

Ban On International Passenger Flights Extended Till September 30
The suspension of scheduled international passenger flights has been extended till September 30, said Indian aviation regulator DGCA on Monday.

"However, international scheduled flights may be allowed on selected routes by the competent authority on a case-to-case basis," noted the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in a circular. Read more

Unlock4: West Bengal Allows Bars To Reopen From Today

The West Bengal government has allowed bars in the state to reopen from today with strict adherence to social distancing and other COVID-related protocols.

An order issued by the Excise Department today said that services have to be kept within the stipulated hours of opening of the outlets.

Restaurants serving liquor can do so by allowing only 50 per cent occupancy at a time and following all COVID-19 guidelines, it said.

No Country Can "Just Pretend" Coronavirus Pandemic Is Over: WHO

The World Health Organization called on countries to persevere with restrictions to tackle COVID-19, director general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Monday, saying opening up without control of the virus would be a "recipe for disaster".

Tedros recognised that many people are getting tired of restrictions and want to return to normality after eight months of the new coronavirus.

"We want to see children returning to school and people returning to work places, but we want to see it done safely," Tedros told a news conference.
