CLAIMVice chairperson of
Congress social media Pankhuri Pathak tweeted two images showing a man wearing a helmet posing in front of big potholes.
Pathak claimed that these images are from
Uttar Pradesh (UP).
Several other Congress workers tweeted these images with the same claim.
TRUTHThe images are from
West Bengal (WB). They are part of an anti-pothole protest in the eastern state.
VERIFICATION AND METHODOLOGYUsing reverse-image search, we found a
report from aanavandi.com which carried the same images as the one shared by Pathak and other Congress members.
Published on October 14, 2019, the post reports about a unique protest held by a motorist to highlight the poor condition of roads in WB.
Several other markers like billboards of
Mamata Banerjee, posters in
Bengali language, etc in other images carried by the blogging portal further confirmed that the images were indeed from WB and not UP.
VERDICTTimes Fact Check has found that images of poor roads from WB have been falsely passed off as that from UP by Congress leaders.
