Ronwen Williams says SuperSport United's chances of winning the Premiership ended with back-to-back defeats in February.
Matsatsantsa head into their penultimate game of the 2019/20 season against Baroka in fourth place.
They are six points behind league leaders Kaizer Chiefs and mathematically still in the race but have a significantly weaker goal difference.
Since the Premiership restart, SuperSport beat Highlands Park, Polokwane City and Black Leopards; drew with Bloemfontein Celtic, ahead of losing to Orlando Pirates over the past weekend.
Speaking to Soccer Laduma, the SuperSport captain explained: "At the beginning of the season, we had a chat as a club, and we identified where our problems were in the previous season. I mean we always beat the top teams in Chiefs and Pirates, but then we drop points to the lower teams, this is exactly what happened this year.
"I know where we lost the league. It was February this year where we lost back-to-back games against Stellenbosch and Golden Arrows, no disrespect to them, but they shouldn’t be taking points off us."
Williams added: "We've got six points to play for, starting with Baroka. The guys are hungry now.
"It's going to be tough because they are fighting for relegation and we are fighting to stay in the top three and cement our place up there. It's going to be a fight, but the guys are looking forward to it."
Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns have 53 points, Bidvest Wits have 49 points and SuperSport have 47 points, all with two matches to play.
