PUDUCHERRY: The
Puducherry government on Monday withdrew its decision to impose localized
lockdown on 32 hamlets which have high
Covid-19 doubling rates and high positivity rates
The lockdown was to be in force from August 31 to September 6. The government withdrew the decision to impose lockdown following a widespread
protest by the people.
Poor self-disciplineLieutenant governor Kiran Bedi regretted that people continue to gather in large numbers without following social distancing norms. She warned that Puducherry would report more than 1,000 cases per day by the middle of September if people continued to violate the precautionary measures.
Quoting a doctor, Bedi said a patient, who escaped from Covid-19 ward, visited an arrack shop and consumed alcohol and returned to the ward. "How to handle such a situation. Self-discipline is very poor by alcoholics,” she regretted.

"Right now, we are in the process of increasing the number of RT PCR tests performed per day. Six centres in the UT have been equipped to perform the RAT. Soon we will scale up the number of tests," said a health official.
