Jharkhand State Cricket Association Will Consult MS Dhoni About His Felicitation, Says JSCA secretary Sanjay Sahay
Reports suggest that the Jharkhand State Cricket Association would consult MS Dhoni about his farewell once he returns to India after finishing the tournament.
Former India skipper MS Dhoni took retirement from international cricket on August 15. Since then, discussions have been going about his farewell match. Recently, the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) held its annual general meeting online in light of the COVID-19 situation.
According to the Times of India, the JSCA has not decided on how to felicitate him. Dhoni is in the UAE for the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League. He is the captain of IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings.
The national daily reported that the cricket association would consult Dhoni about his farewell once he returns to India after finishing the tournament.
JSCA secretary Sanjay Sahay, talking to the daily, said, "We will definitely request him for the felicitation. Whatever we do we need to ask him first. BCCI will probably do it their own way but if it doesn’t from their end then definitely we would like to do something about it (felicitating him)."
After Dhoni hung up his boots, Chief Minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to organise a farewell match for the World Cup-winning captain in his hometown (Ranchi).
However, former IPL chairman dismissed such suggestion, saying that Dhoni had not made any demand for holding any farewell match.
Dhoni has not been seen in action since July 2019, when India lost the semifinal of the World Cup to New Zealand.
The former captain in his illustrious career has led India to win the inaugural 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 World Cup, Champions Trophy, among other tournaments.
Recipient of awards like the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan, Dhoni has scored 4,876 runs in 90 Tests and 10,773 runs in 350 One-Day Internationals (ODIs). He has also played 98 T20Is in which he has made 1,617 runs.
