People have resumed visiting tourism hotspots in Cox’s Bazar, Sylhet and other districts after staying indoors for more than five months as a result of the corona virus pandemic.
The Bangladesh government reopened the longest sea beach of the world in Cox’s Bazar for the public on August 17 after a shutdown for around five months.
Karim Ullah, the general secretary of Cox’s Bazar Hotel-Motel Officers’ Association, said that thousands of tourists are coming every day and the numbers are several times more compared to the same period in the previous years.
More than half of the rooms at majority of the hotels in the beach city are booked now, which is quite unlikely for the off-peak season.
Residents of Dhaka are planning to visit the tourist spots in groups.
Sumat Nuri Chowdhury Jewel, the president of Sylhet Hotel and Guest House Owners’ Association, said that the shutdown is “disastrous” for tourism. However, he is now hopeful with tourists resuming their visit to the district. He said that they are following corona virus health rules stringently at the hotels and guest houses.
The district administration is increasing awareness by making announcements via loudspeakers and setting up billboards along with arranging hand-washing spots at key points.
Md Zillur Rahman, a superintendent of tourist police in Cox’s Bazar, said that they are adhering to the health rules too.
