With COVID-19 cases continuing to spiral in the state, the village of Navelim in Salcete taluka is emerging as a new hotspot, accounting for 50 per cent of the positive cases registered under the jurisdiction of the Navelim primary health centre.

According to highly placed sources, of the 116 cases recorded at the primary health centre, 58 are from Navelim itself, while the other cases are from areas like Rumdamol-Davorlim, Davorlim, Aquem Baixo and Telaulim.

The official said eight patients were discharged on Sunday, bringing the total number of positive cases down to 108, while fresh cases

were detected on Monday at Sinquetim, Ratwaddo, Dialgona and Telaulim.

Sources said despite the number of cases surging, it is difficult to contain the area, as the infection has spread to various parts rather than remaining limited to a particular area. He said all precautions including sanitising the infected areas are being taken. The source also said that tests of the contacts of infected persons have also been conducted and reports of many samples are awaited.
