9,000 bottles of liquor recovered from gas container in Haryana's Hisar

Cases of liquor being brought out of the container
HISAR: The police on Saturday night arrested in Hisar the driver of a gas tanker carrying 9,372 bottles of English liquor. The illicit liquor was being transported from Panipat to Rajasthan. Different registration number plates were affixed on the front and back of the gas tanker, the police said.
Based on the complaint of havildar Sandeep, a case has been registered at the Hisar Sadar police station against Kishna Ram, a resident of Bhunia village in Barmer district of Rajasthan, under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Excise Act.
In his complaint, Sandeep said they had received a tipoff that a gas tanker carrying illicit liquor was on its way to Hisar from Panipat and would further go to Rajasthan. Besides, they were also told that the number plates of the tanker had also been tampered with, he stated.
A police team stopped the gas tanker at Bhanu Pratap Chowk here. The tanker driver tried to escape, but the police team nabbed him.
“During the interrogation, the driver gave his identity as Kishna Ram. He said the tanker was handed over to him by a person named Chhotu Bhai near a hotel in Panipat, saying it has to be taken to Rajasthan,” a police official said.
Excise inspector Narendra Kumar was called on the spot and when the tanker’s container was checked, 781 boxes (9,372 bottles) of English liquor were recovered from it.
