The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested the supervisor of the Mundra dockyard in Gujarat. An official said that he was working as an alleged agent of the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI.
An NIA official said Rajkabhai Kumbhar, a resident of western Kutch in Gujarat, was arrested on Sunday in connection with the investigation into the 'defense / ISI case' of Uttar Pradesh.
The officer said that the case is related to the FIR registered on January 19 at Gomti Nagar police station in Lucknow on the arrest of Mohammad Rashid from Mughalsarai in Chandoli district. He said the NIA had re-registered the case on April 6 under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
He said that during the investigation it was revealed that Rashid was in contact with defense or ISI handlers in Pakistan and went to the neighboring country twice.
An NIA spokesperson said that he had sent photographs of strategically sensitive and important installations in India and shared information about the activity of the armed forces with ISI handlers in Pakistan.
The spokesperson said that investigations revealed that Kumbhar was acting as an ISI agent and sent Rs 5,000 to a Rizwan's account through Paytm, which was then passed on to the main accused Rashid.
He said that Kumbhar gave this amount to Rashid on the instructions of the ISI handler to give information. A search was conducted at Kumbhar's house on Thursday and several documents proving the crime were recovered. Further investigation in the case is going on.
