Eight feared drowned in J&K after vehicle falls into Chenab

JAMMU: At least eight people are feared drowned after a vehicle plunged into the Chenab in Jammu & Kashmir’s Ramban district on Monday.
The private vehicle carrying passengers was on its way to Ramban from Udhampur when it skidded off the road and plunged into the Chenab river near Ramban.
There was just one survivor, who had a miraculous escape. The injured man, Mehraj Din of Awantipura, had jumped from the broken window of the vehicle as soon as the vehicle rolled into a gorge. He informed the police that there were eight-nine persons in the ill-fated vehicle.
The local police and volunteers led by ASP Sanjay Kumar Parihar rushed to the spot and launched a massive search operation.
“So far, there has been no clue of the ill-fated vehicle or its passengers and poor light forced suspension of the search operation in the late evening hours, the Ramban SSP Haseeb-ur-Rahman said.
