01/7From Kareena Kapoor's pink lehenga to Vidya Balan's anarkali: Bollywood babes love Chikankari
References to Chikankari like embroidery date back to 3rd century BC and the traditional embroidery style from Lucknow has become eternal ever since. Chikankari is having a moment right now, thanks to Bollywood divas and we are loving every look of them. And, if you love chikan dresses, we've got you covered, thanks to Anchal Aggarwal, Co-Founder of label 'Ruh'. We got in touch with the chikankari expert and got her to share some serious inspiration for people who love this sort of embroidery. And, what better way to try out chikan than take a cue or two from Bollywood divas who are slaying in chikan garments like never before! Here's a look at our favourite celebrities rocking chikankari ensembles with poise and panache.
'With an enchanting experience of needle and thread work, this fine embroidery has captivated a large number of people ever since summer hit the walls. On an everyday basis, you can wear chikankari kurtas, anarkalis, dupattas and even co-ordinate sets for the unique glam quotient. A finely crafted chikankari set makes a perfect outfit for a lunch date, a meeting or for a casual outing with your friends. It is bound to grab eyeballs and you will definitely get compliments on your outfit without even trying," states Anchal.
For an event last year, Kareena stepped out in a chikankari lehenga in powder pink colour. Styled by Tanya Ghavri, she draped the dupatta over the shoulders which featured delicate embroidery in white colour. We loved it!
The queen of ethnic fashion, Vidya Balan has shown us various ways to don ethnic outfits like a pro. And we loved her chikan Anarkali set from Ruh, in earthy beige tone with beautiful hand crafting. The suit is just perfect to add spark to your look. The beautiful suit which comes with a mask showcases detailed thread embroidery work to woe anyone and everyone in the room.
We love Janhvi Kapoor and her love for traditional wear. She has been captured by paparazzi on the streets of Mumbai wearing some cool breezy pastel colour chikankari kurtas for casual outings. You can definitely take inspiration from her on how to style such kurtas—with jeans for a statement look, with palazzos for a fashionable brunch outfit and legging for the lazy days. Janhvi Kapoor loves keeping her look minimal by pairing these kurtas with silver earrings and jutis.
Priyanka Chopra celebrated her Roka ceremony in a bright yellow chikankari suit while beau Nick Jonas also wore lemon coloured chikankari sherwani. Her floor length suit set had detailed embroidery with a silver embellished border. She looked radiant in her desi girl avatar.
Sara Ali Khan may prefer gowns and dresses on red carpets but her personal style is all about chikankari kurtas. The actor has been spotted at airports and meetings wearing her favourite kurtas with a matching trouser and dupatta. Monochrome is her way to style chikankari sets and believe it or not, it will become your go-to outfit too.
