Photo for representative purpose onlyMUMBAI: A 25-year-old man was blackmailed into paying Rs 37,000 to a woman who threatened to make his nude content public. The victim, a resident of Bhayander employed at a private firm in the city, was working from home.
The man received a call from an unknown number on WhatsApp last month. The woman who called started chatting with him, and soon they were chatting daily. The woman asked him to go nude on video call, and he complied. She recorded these video calls and used them later for extortion. The woman asked him to pay Rs 50,000. He said a man who identified himself as CBI agent also threatened him. They agreed on Rs 37,000, which he transferred to a digital wallet number the woman sent.
When the extortion bid continued, the man approached the Utan police.
A case was filed against the two unidentified accused for extortion, cheating and criminal intimidation. As cases like this taken place often, the police advise citizens to be careful when befriending unknown people over social platforms. Police advise that in case of blackmail, the victim not give in to the demands and contact the authorities.
