Lucknow: Under ‘spell of depression’, minor shoots mom, brother

Police investigating
LUCKNOW: In a sensational case, a minor girl, who is a national-level shooter, allegedly shot her mother and brother at her father's official residence in Lucknow on Saturday afternoon.
The girl, the daughter of a top Railway officer, has confessed to her crime in presence of her grandparents, say Lucknow police commissioner Sujeet Pandey. Prima facie, the crime has been committed under depression, Pandey says.

Her father, who is posted in Delhi, was on the way to Lucknow by road. Today is his birthday, one of the relatives told TOI. He was transferred from Lucknow to Delhi last year and the family, too, was planning to shift soon.
“The girl first slashed her wrist and wrote “I am a disqualified human”, using fruit jam, on a mirror in the bathroom. She also fired a shot at the mirror. Later, she came out of the bathroom and shot her mother on the head and later her brother. Both the victims were probably taking naps,” said Pandey, as per the girl's confession.
Pandey also said that during the probe, it surfaced that there was no forced entry as all the doors of the house were shut from inside. A crime scene was reconstructed along with the forensic experts in the presence of the UP DGP HC Awasthy, who had also visited the spot.
“We also recovered the blood-stained written matter in the bathroom along with the pellet and its handwriting was immediately matched with notebooks of the minor which helped us join the dots,” he added.
The CP also told mediapersons that the minor girl was interrogated by woman officers of the rank of deputy commissioner of police. He also said that .22 caliber pistol -- normally used by shooters -- have been found in the bedroom where the two bodies were found.
14-year-old fired three rounds: DCP
Around three rounds were fired by the minor on the basis of pellets recovered,” said DCP, Central, Somen Barma. The recovered cartridges are of 0.22 mm.
The girl reportedly called her grandmother (nani) first before a 'third person' informed the police. A crime branch sleuth privy to the probe disclosed that the cops were informed at 3.32 pm by a third party.
“When cops from nearby Gautam Palli police station reached the bungalow, there was an ambulance already standing in front of the house. The door of the room was open and the bodies of a woman, 47, and a boy, 17, were lying inside the bedroom while the girl was standing near the gate,” Barma said.
He also said only three persons stayed in the house, along with six domestic aides. The girl has studied at a reputed school and taken part in several national-level shooting championships. In April, she went to Chandigarh to take part in national trials.
