Sushant case: Congress questions Centre over CBI probe, wants Sandeep Ssingh's 'BJP-link' investigatedThe Congress leader said Ssingh's closeness to the ruling party is evident from the fact that he made the biopic on PM Modi. "He is not a common person as none other than the then CM Devendra Fadnavis released the posters of this film."

The Congress Sunday waded into the Sushant Singh Rajput case, raising questions over the alleged links of film producer Sandip Ssingh with the BJP and claiming he had made “53 phone calls” to the Maharashtra office of the saffron party over the past few months. This came a day after Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said he would forward to the CBI complaints he had received about Ssingh, who produced the film PM Narendra Modi, and a “drug nexus” in Bollywood.

So far, the Congress at the national level had kept its distance from the row. With Ssingh’s name surfacing, it has sensed an opportunity to turn the tables on the BJP. On Friday, the Maharashtra Congress said there was a need to probe the “BJP angle” in Rajput’s death.

Spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi Sunday alleged the producer had made 53 calls to the Maharashtra BJP office in the last few months. “Was Ssingh the reason for showing alacrity in ordering CBI probe?” he asked.

Singhvi claimed that the posters of the PM biopic were unveiled by BJP leader and then Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis. “Who is the special person…who is taking responsibility for this person, who claims to be the best friend of Rajput?” asked Singhvi.

On Friday, Maharashtra Congress spokesman Sachin Sawant had shared a picture of Ssingh with Fadnavis.

Fadnavis Saturday denied any link to Ssingh. “Why did the Mumbai Police not investigate these people earlier? The person in question may have been present at some function where I was present. There is also some report that the same person was the director of a movie to be made on Balasaheb Thackeray,” he said.

Ssingh was unavailable for comment.
