Bengaluru: New cargo complex at Kempegowda International Airport almost ready

BENGALURU: A 4 lakh sqft building to handle express air cargo will be unveiled at Kempegowda International Airport soon. The facility will primarily house two international cargo players connecting the airport with locations across the globe.
Sources said the building is adjacent to the Air India SATS Cool Port cargo complex at the terminal.
Interior works, including parking stations, are on despite many cargo terminal staff testing positive for Covid-19, officials said. Tender was called in 2018 and work commenced a year ago.
Officials said the building is likely to be unveiled in October or the year-end. However, Bangalore International Airport Limited authorities refused to divulge more details.
From April till July, KIA handled cargo shipment of 71,406 metric tonnes, including 6,194 metric tonnes of perishable goods and 2,300 metric tonnes of medical supplies, mainly during the Covid crisis.
International player DHL dealt with1,461metric tonnes in June alone and cargo operator FedEx handled 1,385 metric tonnes in June, BIAL cargo statistics read.
