ARABIA WITH LEVISON WOOD
New series ★★★★
7.30pm, SBS
British army officer Levison Wood doesn’t do leisure tourism. With a shaky (often concealed) camera rolling, he ventures to the kinds of places that seem the antithesis of the word “holiday destination”, to give as visceral an experience of the place as it’s possible to have without risking life and limb. Starting at the Kurdistan border, he travels through war zones, along the way making some strong connection with locals and learning some truths about the ancient culture.

SLIDERS
★★★
1pm, 9Go!
With a tendency to get lost amid the sci-fi series that swamped early '90s television, Sliders bears all the quaint hallmarks of its era, but ditches aliens and supernatural forces for the infinitely more nerdy concept of parallel universes. The premise allows for all sorts of musings on human nature – for example, what might we be like if we lived in a world free of hate? This episode, “Gillian of the Spirits”, bends its own rules by introducing a character who can see the main Slider, and has a twist at the end that’s as close to raunchy as the series gets.

EMERGENCY
★★★
9.30pm, Nine
It’s never a dull day in this workplace, but the events of this shift at the Royal Melbourne Hospital are especially knife-edge. Dr Emma West is on the scene when a road accident patient arrives at emergency via the helipad. Dr Lauren Cohen sees to an American schoolboy who has fallen off a cliff. And Dr Tom Razga tends to the myriad conditions in triage, where Dr Michelle Thornhill investigates what appears to be a case of constipation.
