PMK leader to TN govt: Take steps to stop fee collection during enrolment at govt schools

CHENNAI: PMK leader S Ramadoss on Saturday urged the Tamil Nadu government to take an appropriate measure to stop headmasters and teachers at government schools from collecting fees from students during enrolment.
Despite the education minister issuing a warning against people forcing students to pay fees, the practice is still going on in several government schools. Parents have protested this in Chennai, Tirupur and Avinashi.
He said it was welcome news on the step rise in government school enrolment. However, the students were forced to pay fees. Students joining classes X and XI in government schools were asked to pay Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,000 and Rs 3,000 to Rs 6,000, respectively.
The fees have been collected on the pretext of paying salary to teachers appointed by the parent-teacher association despite the government sanctioning funds for the same, he said in a statement.
