UP: Covid positive banker jumps from hospital's 6th floor, dies

BAREILLY: A 42-year-old banker, who tested Covid-19 positive, allegedly killed himself by jumping off from the sixth floor of the Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU) Medical College building in UP’s Moradabad district on Thursday.
Police said the man was diagnosed two days ago and was kept in a private ward. This is the second such incident at TMU in a span of 10 days.
Identified as Rajesh Kumar, the deceased man was a resident of Ram Ganga Vihar at Civil Lines, and was working as a senior manager of a bank in Bilari.
After complaining of Covid-19-like symptoms, he was tested and reports came in the affirmative. On Thursday night, Kumar jumped off from the hospital facility and died immediately. Forensic team and senior police officials rushed to the spot and the body was sent for a postmortem, police said. The deceased is survived by his wife and two children.
Circle officer Ram Sagar said, “After complaining of fever and cough, tests were conducted and Rajesh Kumar was tested Covid positive. On August 26, he was admitted to the Covid ward and after two days, he allegedly killed himself. Investigation has started.”
Last week, a 28-year-old woman had died after falling from the second floor of the same hospital building, in an attempt to escape from the Covid facility. The incident was captured on CCTV.
