CHANDIGARH: Two Congress MLAs, Nirmal Singh Shutrana and Kulbir Singh Zira tested positive for Covid-19 after attending the one-day assembly session on Friday.
Confirming this, Speaker Rana KP Singh said both the MLAs had tested positive after having attended the session. “Shutrana had got himself tested on August 25 and his report was negative. However, while he was attending the obituary references during the session, he started feeling uneasy. He left the session soon after, went to get himself tested again and the report was positive,” the speaker said.
A Congress leader added that Zira got himself tested again after the session and his report also turned out to be positive.
In keeping with the guidelines of the Union health ministry, a latest Covid test report was made mandatory for those attending the session, including the MLAs and ministers. The MLAs had their tests done on Tuesday and Wednesday. In the 117-member House, as many as 30 MLAs have tested positive across parties so far and some of them have already recovered.
SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia said while the SAD acted responsibly, many others, including the AAP and Congress legislators did not.
