Conditional approval for procession during Moharram in Mumbai

The Bombay High Court on Friday approved the procession during the Moharram in Mumbai. However, the procession will have to be taken amid tight restrictions due to the Corona epidemic. A bench of Justices SJ Kathavala and Justice Madhav Jamdar granted this permission on the plea of ​​the local Shia Muslim organization, which sought approval to symbolically procession during the Moharram. An agreement was reached between the Maharashtra government and the Shia organization All India Idara-e-Tahafuz-e-Hussainiat, after which both reached court. After this, the court gave its consent.

According to the court order, people of the Shia community have been allowed to take out the procession on August 30 from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. That too, the procession can be carried out on the already decided route through the truck. The procession will not be allowed to be carried out on foot. A maximum of five people will be allowed in each truck and only five people will be with Taj. The names and home addresses of the five people who have been granted permission have been handed over to the Mumbai Police. At the same time, the state government has been asked to take all possible steps to control the crowd and also to introduce Section 144.
