Uttarakhand BJP chief Bhagat tests positive
Uttarakhand BJP president Bansidhar Bhagat on Saturday said he has tested positive for COVID-19.
Taking to Twitter, Bhagat himself announced his test result and asked all those who came in contact with him last week to undergo COVID-19 testing.
Uttarakhand BJP vice-president Devendra Bhasin said Bhagat's treatment has begun. He also wished the state party chief a speedy recovery.

India's cases, fatalities per million among the lowest in world
For every million population, India's coronavirus cases and fatalities are one of the lowest compared to the global averages, the high-level Group of Ministers (GoM) on COVID-19 was informed on Saturday.
At its 20th meeting held here on Saturday, the GoM on COVID-19 was briefed on the current status of the coronavirus outbreak in India, the health ministry said.
The meeting was informed that as of Saturday, eight states -- Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha and Telangana -- contribute around 73 per cent of the active caseload.

NEET, JEE exams: NSUI leaders on hunger strike in Goa
Congress-affiliated National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Saturday sat on indefinite hunger strike here demanding that JEE and NEET examinations be postponed. The leaders, including NSUI's Goa unnit chief Ahraz Mulla, Prasenjeet Dhage and Naushad Chawdhari, also demaded that college fees be waived by 60 per cent in view of the COVID-19 situation.
Dhage alleged some colleges are charging Rs 60,000- 70,000 in fees from students which is putting huge financial burden on parents. He said the fast will continue till the Central government agrees to defer JEE and NEET exams.

With coronavirus cases increasing in the national capital, authorities have formed enforcement teams in each district of Delhi to ensure strict implementation of COVID-19 guidelines.
The move comes days after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that stringent enforcement of COVID-19 guidelines would be ensured and had said everyone should wear a face mask and maintain social distancing at public places.

Telangana logged 2,751 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the tally to 1,20,166, while the death toll rose to 808 with nine more fatalities. Russia's COVID-19 tally rises to 9,85,346
Russia has recorded 4,941 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, up from 4,829 the day before, which brings the cumulative total to 985,346, the Coronavirus Response Centre said on Saturday. Over the past day, Moscow has registered 677 cases, St. Petersburg 189, and the Moscow region 163.
In the same period, 111 deaths were recorded, up from 110 the day before, bringing the total to 17,025, and 5,917 recoveries, up from 5,905 the day before, bringing the total to 804,383 recoveries.

Coca-Cola to cut thousands of jobs as Covid-19 hits sales
Coca-Cola will cut thousands of jobs and reduce the number of business units as it faces declining beverage sales in the coronavirus pandemic. Coke said the job cuts will come in the form of voluntary and involuntary reductions, reported CNN. It plans to first offer buyouts to 4,000 employees in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico and then offer a similar voluntary programme in other countries.
The number of people who take the buyout will reduce the number of involuntary layoffs, the company said. Coke did not say how many jobs could be lost in total but said global severance expenses could range from 350 million dollars to 550 million dollars.

One more COVID-related death in Ladakh, toll reaches 28
One more patient died of coronavirus in Ladakh, taking the death toll due to the disease in the union territory to 28, officials said on Saturday. The patient, who was suffering from various ailments, died at a hospital in Leh district on Friday, they said. This was the 10th COVID-related death in Leh district, while rest of the 18 fatalities had taken place in Kargil district since the outbreak of the disease in March.
Ladakh had so far recorded a total of 2,540 positive cases. While 1,742 patients have recovered and subsequently discharged, 798 are still undergoing treatment - 480 in Leh and 318 in Kargil, the officials said.

No lockdown in NEET and JEE exam cities: Odisha Govt
There will be no lockdown or shutdown in force in the cities in Odisha where NEET and JEE exams will be held from August 30 to September 7 and from September 12 and September 14, said the Odisha Government on Friday. "There will be no lockdown or shutdown in force in the examination cities in Odisha from 30th August and 7th September and from 12th September and 14th September," read an order.
The order further stated that all COVID-19 safety norms are to be followed at the examination centres in view of the pandemic. "The organisers will ensure that all safety protocols relating to COVID-19 such as physical distancing, mask-wearing, no spitting in public place, personal hygiene and sanitation, etc. are duly maintained inside the centre. The District Authority will ensure the same outside the examination centre," it added.

1,763 more COVID-19 patients discharged in Assam
As many as 1,763 COVID-19 patients were discharged in Assam yesterday, taking the total number of discharged cases in the state to 81,070, informed the State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday.
With this, the active cases stand at 20,008. While the total number of cases stands at 1,01,367. Two hundred and eighty-six fatalities have been recorded in the state so far.

Argentina registered its highest number of new daily COVID-19 cases on Friday as the government partially relaxed nationwide lockdown measures to allow outdoor get-togethers of up to 10 people wearing masks. Almost 70% of head teachers do not have confidence in the UK government's test, trace and isolate system ahead of the return of millions of school children next week, a new survey of over 4,000 school leaders has shown.
England's nearly 25,000 schools are set to return full time next week after many saw only a fraction of pupils return for the end of the last academic year.
They face challenges trying to manage the challenges of the coronavirus in busy buildings and what will happen if there is an outbreak in a school, as some other countries have seen.
The survey by the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) of predominantly English schools showed that only 7% of school leaders said they were confident in the government’s test, trace and isolate scheme while 68% were not.
