Gujarat adds record 1,282 new Covid cases, 13 deaths in 24 hours

AHMEDABAD: The state recorded another daily highest Covid-19 positive cases at 1,282 in 24 hours ending 5pm on Saturday, taking the cumulative tally to 93,883. It was the second consecutive day for the state to record 1,200-plus daily cases.
The new cases included 273 from Surat, 164 from Ahmedabad, 124 from Vadodara, and 115 from Rajkot. The cumulative cases in Surat crossed 20,000 at 20,069, whereas Ahmedabad district’s tally reached 31,262. The two districts account for 55% of the state’s total cases so far.
The state also recorded deaths of 13 positive patients – the lowest daily death toll in five days – taking the cumulative toll to 2,991. The deaths included three from Ahmedabad, two each from Rajkot and Surat, and one each from Vadodara, Jamnagar, Morbi, Amreli, Gir Somnath and Mehsana. It was the lowest daily death toll for Surat in 63 days as the district had recorded two deaths on June 27.
A total of 1,111 patients got discharged in 24 hours, taking the total to 75,662. The discharges include 225 from Surat, 160 from Ahmedabad, 101 from Vadodara and 99 from Jamnagar.
With the update, the number of the state’s active patients reached 15,230 – the highest so far – that accounts for 16.2% of total cases. While 80.6% of the positive patients have so far got discharged, 3.2% have succumbed to the viral infection.
Gujarat carried out 74,234 tests in 24 hours, taking the total to 21.95 lakh. The state health department claimed that the figure is 1142 tests per day per million population. As on Saturday evening, Gujarat has 4.99 lakh persons under quarantine, out of which 518 persons are under facility quarantine, the rest are under home quarantine.
