GANDHINGAR: The Prime Minister’s hometown, Vadnagar in north Gujarat, is slated to become a major tourist destination soon. The ancient Buddhist site excavated there will have a heritage museum, a new indoor stadium and a music university, which will be named after Tana Riri – the two sisters from Vadnagar who practised and promoted music more than four centuries ago.
Work on the new indoor sports complex, spread over an area of five acres, has already started. Work on the heritage museum-cum-complex is expected to begin in the coming months.
In all, the state government has estimated the works to cost upwards of Rs 120 crore. “The sports complex and music university will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore each. The heritage museum's proposed budget is an estimated Rs 100 crore plus as it will use state-of-the-art advances technology,” said a source close to the development.
PM’s hometown Vadnagar to also get heritage museumGovernment sources said construction of the indoor sports complex will be over by May 2021. “The sports complex will be equipped with all modern sports facilities. Land acquisition is close to completion, and more sports facilities will be added there over the next two years,” a government source said.
“Development of a hightech experiential heritage museum is also under way. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is working with expert agencies to develop the museum complex, where people can view actual artefacts and other excavated materials along with the site from where they have been excavated,” a source said.
He added visitors can also enjoy digital images of various activities in the history of Vadnagar. “Work is expected to start by the end of 2020 or early 2021,”a government source said.
Sources said the state government has sanctioned setting up of a new music college at Vadnagar, which will be developed as the first music university of Gujarat.
“Vadnagar has a rich history of music as the sisters, Tana and RiRi lived and strived for growth of music there. The music university will be named as Tana RiRi music university,” a source said.
