SC judgment on final examination for College students

1. UGC guideline for mandatory final examination correct. It is also right in saying no promotion without exams. 2. States have power under Disaster Management Act to order postponement of exams in view of pandemic. 3. If a state wants final exams to be postponed beyond UGC deadline of Sept 30, they have to consult UGC for fixing fresh date for final examination in that state.

SC said states can consult UGC to fix date for holding final examination at a date convenient and suitable in view of the pandemic. This means UGC's September 30 is not mandatory for states to adhere to. They can fix dates beyond September 30 for holding final exams.

SC said no state can promote final year students without final examination as ordered by UGC.

SC rules that final year examination for college/univ students have to be held. But states under Disaster management Act can postpone exams in view of pandemic.
