A proposal passed in the state assembly to include Arunachal Pradesh in the Sixth Schedule!

The Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Thursday passed a resolution urging the central government to include the state in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution and to amend Article-371 (H) to protect the rights of the original inhabitants.


In the Assembly, Home Minister Bamang Felix moved the motion and was supported by all members, rising above party sentiment. The resolution said, "The Assembly resolves that Arunachal Pradesh will be included in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution to protect the tribal rights of the original inhabitants."

The Assembly further resolved that by amending Article 371 (h) of the Constitution relating to the state, the provisions protecting the religious and social traditions, customs and corresponding civil administration and criminal justice, property rights, and land transfer of the tribes of the state Will be strengthened by incorporating. ''

Significantly, the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution provides for the administration of tribal areas of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Mizoram. Arunachal Pradesh, bordering Bhutan, China, and Myanmar, has been provided in the Fifth Schedule, which provides for the administration, control of scheduled areas.

Article-371 (h) contains special provisions in relation to the Governor and relation to the total seats of the Legislative Assembly. During the discussion on the proposal, Chief Minister Pema Khandu said that there are many tribes living in Arunachal Pradesh, but there is not enough law to protect their rights.
