VAO arrested in TN for taking bribe

COIMBATORE: Directorate of Vigilance and Anti -Corruption (DVAC) sleuths arrested a village administrative officer while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from a farmer at the VAO office in Rasipalayam village in Coimbatore district on Friday evening.
The arrested VAO has been identified as M Vijayakumar, 24, a native of Dindigul district.
C Prakash, 40, a farmer from Rasipalayam village approached the VAO to get patta transfer and a certificate of small and marginal farmer. The VAO demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 from Prakash who agreed to provide a bribe of Rs 12500.
A few days ago, Prakash had paid Rs 8,500 to the VAO and promised him to give the remaining amount on Friday.
Prakash approached DVAC sleuths who planned a trap. The sleuths placed phenolphthalein powder-applied currency notes to the farmer.
On Friday afternoon, the farmer handed over the currency notes to the VAO who was caught red-handed by the DVAC sleuths.
Immediately the sleuths arrested Vijayakumar and he was produced before the special court for DVAC cases judge on Friday night. He was remanded in judicial custody.
