The business side of baseball resumed in full along with games league-wide Friday night.
Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom expects to be active ahead of Monday’s trade deadline. Several Boston players have surfaced elsewhere among the rumor mill, including relief pitcher Matt Barnes and catcher Christian Vazquez.
The heat on those discussions turned from a boil to a low simmer after the events of Wednesday and Thursday. The Red Sox elected not to play their series finale with the Blue Jays and ended their road trip an even 3-3.
"We all have jobs to do, and we’re going to continue doing those jobs," Bloom said. "We need to continue to run our organization. Obviously we’re going to play a game tonight, and everything that comes with that needs to happen.
"But we can walk and chew gum at the same time. I think one of the big lessons from this for our sport is that this shouldn’t be something we only pay attention to every now and then when we want to. It has to become part of how we live and how we operate."
