BPUT publishes results of final year online exams

BHUBANESWAR: Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) has managed to conduct end-semester examinations of undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses in online mode despite protest from students and widespread criticism for its difficult-to-meet guidelines for examinations. It has also announced results of these examinations.
The university has conducted online examinations between July 9 and August 20 for final semester students of BTech, BArch, BPlan, BPharm, MSc Integrated and MBA courses. It has been publishing results in phased manner. Results of BTech and MSc (Integrated) were published on August 13. Later results of other courses were announced.
But the results of last two subjects BPharm and MBA were declared on Thursday. With this, the whole process for online examination and result publication of all final year UG and PG courses has come to an end.
Official sources said number of BTech final semester students is the highest among students of other courses. As many as 12,123 students out of total 20,268 had appeared the BTech final semester examination on August 8 and 9 and published the results on August 13. A total of 11,553 students passed the online examination.
But 40 per cent of the total final year BTech students of BPUT could not appear for the online examination. They may sit for offline examination after the opening of the institution. Out of total 25,452 final semester UG and PG students of the university, 15,825 students from different courses have appeared the online test. That means 38 per cent of the final year students have not opted this examination.
Deepak Kumar Sahoo, director of examinations, BPUT, said 92 per cent of B Pharm and 70 per cent of MBA students had opted for university's online examination. "These online examinations were a challenge for the university because it was new to our students. But we completed it successfully. Now they can pursue higher education or join companies," he said, adding, "Students from 17 states have appeared the examination."
The university was criticised for issuing a long list of requirements for the online test. Later it had asked students to bring two apparatus- web cam and mic- to the examination centres if they can arrange. Stung by criticism, the BPUT had changed in its stance and allowed students to appear examination via smart phone. It had conducted tests under CCTV surveillance in examination centres.
