RAJKOT: A man was detained on Friday for allegedly clubbing his six-month-old daughter to death, following a fight with his wife in Manaba village of Maliya-Miyana taluka in Morbi district on Thursday night.
Police said the accused, Kalamsinh Baviya (37), snatched his daughter Savina from the hands of his wife Sangeeta Baviya (35).
“Baviya threw his daughter on the bed and hit her head with a bat, killing her on the spot. The incident occurred when Sangeeta was taking her daughter and walking out on Baviya,” said R B Tapariya, sub-inspector with Maliya-Miyana police station.
The incident occurred at the house of Sangeeta’s brother Sapit Adivasi. Baviya had returned to Manaba village from his village in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh.
Sangeeta was living with her brother Sapit when Baviya came to take her. There broke out a fight between the couple over an unknown issue, following which Sangeeta picked up her daughter and started to leave the house. It was then that Baviya committed the crime.
The couple has four children, including three daughters and a son.
“We have detained Baviya. He will be formally arrested once he undergoes Covid-19 test,” added Tapariya.
