CHENNAI: The manager at the special branch criminal intelligence department (SBCID) office at the DGP headquarters died of Covid-19 on Wednesday after failing to respond to treatment at the government hospital.
The deceased, Chandrasekar, 58, attained superannuation on May 31. However, as the state government extended the services of all government staff members retired between April and May due to the coronavirus pandemic, Chandrasekar’s tenure was extended.
He developed Covid-19 symptoms and tested positive for the virus. Chandrasekar was admitted at the Omandurar Government Hospital. His health condition worsened on Tuesday as he had respiratory problems. He was taken to the ICU and was put on a ventilator.
Doctors handed over the mortal remains to his family after an autopsy.
Recollecting the times spent with Chandrasekar while on duty, a deputy superintendent of police said, “He was always polite and was patient with everybody who visited his section with queries.”
