2020 Honda Jazz: What’s new and what’s dropped in BS6-era transition

NEW DELHI: Honda Jazz makes its transition to the BS6 era. The premium hatchback starts at Rs 7.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 9.73 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Honda Jazz now comes with a price hike of almost Rs 30,000 across its V and VX trims. The new ZX trim is a brand-new addition to the line-up. We took a look at the changes in the facelifted Jazz to see whether or not the offering is worth the price hike:

2020 Honda Jazz: All you need to know

What’s new: New engine and a new spirit
What’s dropped: Outgoing diesel engine
The biggest change in the 2020 Honda Jazz is right under its hood. The hatchback has dumped the previous 1.5-litre diesel engine and now sports a BS6-compliant 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine. The decent engine offers 90PS of power and a peak torque of 110 Nm, making the premium hatchback ideal for urban drives.

What’s new: Athletic structure
What’s dropped: Slightly muscular appearance
The 2018 Jazz had a slightly more muscular appearance because of the elevated hood and an extremely awkward slant on the bonnet. Although the structure of 2020 Jazz has not changed much, the facelifted model appears more streamlined and aerodynamic. The 2020 Honda Jazz’s redesigning makes the hood appear a tad bit elongated and gives the car a slightly athletic appearance. The roofline, thick wheel arches and the shoulder lines remain the same.

What’s new: Subtly retouched sharper front-end
What’s dropped: Bland-looking flattened front fascia
The 2020 Honda Jazz flaunts the new chrome-accentuated black-grille with inline shelled LED headlamps. The all-new LED package includes the DRLs, fog lamps and the wing lights. The new LED package makes the car appear much sharper than the outgoing model. The hatchback now features a redesigned front bumper which gives it a hint of aggression blending with the front-end very well. The 2018 Honda Jazz missed out on the sharper features and missed the character lines as well.
What’s new: Flagship-grade ZX trim
What’s dropped: Outgoing top-end VX trim (diesel)
The 2020 Honda Jazz offers the flagship-grade ZX trim that packs up all the good features and experience that the premium hatchback has to offer. The ZX trim starts at Rs 9.73 lakh (ex-showroom), replacing the outgoing top-end VX trim that started at Rs 9.29 lakh (ex-showroom). The ZX trim comes loaded with all the premium features as standard.

What’s new: Improved in-cabin comfort and experience
What’s dropped: Outdated tech and interior design
The 2020 Honda Jazz overtakes the outgoing model in more ways than one. The highlight of the facelift is the all-new one touch electric sunroof, which makes the Jazz stand out in its segment. Another innovative feature is the paddle shifters for CVT trims which again makes the Jazz unrivalled in its segment. The other features offered are Digipad 2.0 interface for the existing 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, automatic climate control, steering mounted audio and one push start/stop button.
The transition from the BS4 to the BS6 era has been quite decent for the Honda Jazz. The meagre changes in the visual features are compensated by the enhanced in-car experience. The Honda Jazz may have undergone very few changes but it still has enough to challenge its rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Altroz, Toyota Glanza and Volkswagen Polo in this day and age. The 2020 Honda Jazz is a unique offering in the market and is worth giving a thought when it comes to purchasing a premium hatchback.
