Bangladeshi woman arrested in Trichy

TRICHY: The Trichy rural police arrested a Bangladeshi woman named Salma, 30, on Wednesday for illegal stay in India. She was said to be the wife of Thoufique, who was arrested for kidnapping a Chennai-based businessman for ransom.
The police discovered Salma's illegal stay while conducting searches for her husband. Salma and her two-year-old son were found at a house in Kandasamy Udayar Street at Manikandam late on Wednesday night. The police said she did not possess any legal documents for her entry and stay in India.
Thoufique of Athirampattinam in Thanjavur met Salma during his visit to Bangladesh to participate in the events of Islam outfits Muslim Defence Force and Iraivan Oruvaney. Salma accompanied Thoufique when he returned to India. Preliminary inquiries suggested that she had been staying in that house for the past five months, police said.
The police took Salma and her son to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) for Covid-19 test before being produced before the court on Thursday morning.
The police have booked her under Section 14-a(b) of the Foreigners Act.
