Pune: A case has been registered against two brothers for allegedly blackmailing a girl ‘friend’ by threatening to upload on social media selfies taken with her. Investigations have revealed that the suspects extorted a mobile and cash from her after making these threats.

A 25-year-old girl from Kothrud has lodged a complaint in this regard. Based on this complaint, Kothrud police have registered FIR against the suspects identified as Vaibhav Dilip Katore and Roshan Dilip Katore, both residents of Omkar Puram Society in Kothrud.

The complainant girl and one of the suspects both are from Nashik. They had been friends with each other since they stayed in Nashik and had recently moved to Pune while looking for employment opportunities. Vaibhav is currently unemployed. Roshan is studying engineering at COEP College.

According to the police, Vaibhav and the girl knew each other in Nashik. They were studying in a private coaching class where they became good friends. After completing her education, the girl decided to shift to Pune to look for a job. She continued with her friendship with Vaibhav during this time.

Meanwhile, Vaibhav too landed up in Pune city with his brother Roshan. Upon arrival, he repeatedly called the complainant. Vaibhav was forcing her to get into a marital relationship. Vaibhav also once came at her company and threatened her colleagues and other staff to behave with her claiming that she was his wife. The girl has also stated in her complaint that Vaibhav tried to molest her once.

Meanwhile, the girl had decided to marry another boy and Vaibhav came to know about her decision. Vaibhav then threatened her that he would upload their selfies on social media and send it to her prospective husband if she goes ahead with her plans. The girl was then forced to send seven thousand five hundred rupees by Vaibhav. Roshan also met her and asked her to buy a phone for Vaibhav.
