The bus was trying to overtake a truck and collided with another bus on Wednesday in KakoriLUCKNOW: Six persons were killed and at least 15 injured in a collision between two UPSRTC buses in Kakori area of Lucknow on Wednesday morning.
The accident took place around 6.45am on Lucknow-Hardoi highway near Amethiya turn in Kakori.
“The driver of a UPSRTC bus bound for Hardoi from Lucknow was trying to overtake a truck when it collided with another UPSRTC bus coming from the opposite direction,” said station house officer, Kakori, PK Singh.
The impact of the collision was so powerful that both the buses got damaged and passengers sitting in the front rows suffered injuries.
Some passengers got stuck in the mangled buses and were rescued by police and locals. Truck driver Zaheer was the first to inform police about the incident.
“The injured were taken to KGMU Trauma Centre in Lucknow where six of them were declared brought dead,” said assistant commissioner of police, Kakori, SM Qasim Abidi. Abidi told TOI that Hardoi bound bus was running at normal speed but collided with another bus due to overtaking.
“The condition of other bus driver Shriram Babu was out of danger,” he said.
Cops to hold technical inspection
Joint commissioner of police, law and order, Naveen Arora, who visited the spot, said the police will conduct a technical inspection of the buses to find the reasons behind the accident and then lodge an FIR.
Among the deceased were (Nitesh Bharti 20), a resident of Saadatganj, who was having tea at a roadside kiosk. All others were bus passengers, including father-son duo Rajendra Saxena (48) and Lucky Saxena (18) of Faizullahganj.
