CUDDALORE: Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday said the e-pass system is necessary to monitor the movement of people in the present pandemic scenario and to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the state.
A few days ago, the Centre directed states and Union territories to abolish the e-pass system for inter-state and intra-state travel. But the Tamil Nadu is unwilling to abolish it.
The CM was speaking to reporters after reviewing the pandemic scenario and healthcare infrastructure for combating the infection in Cuddalore district.
Palaniswami said the government had cancelled undergraduate and postgraduate examinations, except final semester exams, to put an end to the fear, stress and anxiety of the students.
He said the government's stand is to hold the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (Neet) only after the infection is brought under control.
He said more than 3,000 Covid-19 tests were performed daily in Cuddalore district. The government had been taking adequate steps in controlling the spread of the Covid-19 infection in the state, he said.
EPS said the state had adequate stock of medical accessories and drugs to extend necessary treatment to the infected people.
He said the government had constituted 39 mobile medical units in Cuddalore district alone to track, trace, test and treat people with Covid-19 infection.
