Fruit seller killed over payment of Rs 2,500, 1 arrested

Gurgaon: One person has been arrested on Wednesday for allegedly killing a fruit seller over Rs 2,500 in Gopal Nagar. According to police, the fruit seller, identified as Bablu, was stoned to death on the repetetive demand of repayment of a loan given to his friend, Omprakash.
Bablu’s friend, Gaurav, in his statement told police that the deceased used to sell fruits near Punjab National Bank at Mahavir Chowk. Gaurav, Omprakash and Bablu were sharing a rented accommodation in Gopal Nagar area.
“Omprakash had taken Rs 2,500 from Bablu around four months back and when the lockdown was imposed, he went back to his hometown in Punjab. Around 10 days ago, Omprakash returned to Gurgaon and for the last one week Bablu was asking him to return the money. On Tuesday night, they both had an argument over the issue and I had to intervene to calm them down. Later in the night, Omprakash returned and attacked Bablu with a stone leading to his death,” Gaurav said.
He added that Omprakash was reluctant to pay back the amount.
“On Tuesday evening also they had an argument leading to a fight and I had to calm Omprakash down. Omprakash was in general quite aggressive,” Gaurav said in his complaint.
Police spokesperson Subhash Boken said that a case has been registered at Sector 14 police station under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC and a police team is scanning the CCTV footage of the crime spot.
Omprakash was arrested on Wednesday from Gurgaon. “During initial investigation, the accused admitted to have had a dispute going on over money with the deceased. He has returned from Punjab around 10 days back and since then he was under pressure to pay back the amount. The accused claimed that he was unable to refund the money due to some financial issues. Irked with the continuous pressure and reminder from Bablu, he decided to kill his friend,” Boken said.
