Haryana: Mullana residents complain of severe waterlogging

AMBALA: Due to the poor and unplanned drainage system, the residents of a colony in Mullana village are witnessing severe waterlogging.
The residents said since the past about two-three years, they are raising the issue of unplanned drainage system for rainwater from their colony area, but the authorities concerned have not provide any permanent solution.
Surender, a local resident, “The drainage constructed along the NH-344 is damaged. Whenever it rains, the drainage overflows and the rainwater enters the residential area. The stagnant rainwater has been there for the past many years as the downstream flow was obstructed by a road constructed by the Mandi Board. They did not lay any pipes under the road. Due to this, we have to live in a constant fear of infections and vector-borne diseases."
When contacted, Barara SDM Girish Chawla said, “Please be assured, action will be taken urgently to drain out the water. I have forwarded the matter to BDPO.”
However, the BDPO said, "The concerned colony is built on private land and is unauthorised. It is not in the jurisdiction of our department as it is outside the Mullana panchayat limits. Any issues related to NH-344 drainage and road developed by Mandi Board will also be rectified by their departments. However, we will send a junior engineer to the spot and check what can we do to solve this issue."
