Sony’s upcoming PS5 console will feature a number of impressive new features when it finally arrives in the market, including a 3D audio engine and the new DualSense wireless controller with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

The new features promise to make gaming a more immersive experience, and that includes titles like the new Gran Turismo 7. Kazunori Yamauchi said that GT7 will take advantage of the new controller’s adaptive triggers, simulating the pedal feel when ABS kicks in under braking.

“I think the most effective use of the adaptive trigger [in Gran Turismo 7] is for representing the operation of the antilock brake system (ABS) while braking,” said Yamauchi. “A typical ABS releases brake pressure intermittently while the driver applies pressure to the pedal. The adaptive trigger is suited for recreating this pedal feel, and it will allow the player to accurately feel and understand the relationship between the braking force they want and the tire’s grip.”

Yamauchi added: “Compared to the rumble force feedback we had in the past, the special character of the haptic feedback is that it has a bigger range of frequencies it can produce. What this means, is that sound design and tactile design can be handled in a continuous, integrated manner.”

The adaptive triggers and the haptic feedback of the new PS5’s DualSense wireless controller will play a major role in other games too; the triggers will jam each time your gun jams in the first-person shooter Deathloop, while in the Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the controller will feature things like a rolling vibration during special moves, starting from the left grip and moving across the controller.

The new Sony PS5 console is expected to be launched in the market this November, with pre-orders rumored to open next month. The new gaming console will probably launch together with the Gran Turismo 7, so stay tuned.
