Punjab: Patiala police launch WhatsApp helpline

PATIALA: The district police have launched a WhatsApp helpline number to keep the policing more effective by focusing on strengthening ties and working closely with members of the community.
"It is important to have a free flow of interaction with the public for making strategies. With an intention of solution- oriented policing, we have launched a WhatsApp number 9646800112 for the general public which would enable them to send pictures and videos apart from normal calls," said SSP Vikram Jeet.
"We encourage everybody in public to take a unified stand against violence, crime and disregard for the law," he said adding that with a commitment to rope in the public in crime prevention and crime detection, this helpline will prove beneficial in building strong policing and more self-sufficient public.
He said that the WhatsApp number would be supervised by a GO rank officer and prompt action would be taken on actionable inputs.
