CHENNAI: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a news report about the alleged molestation of a mentally disabled woman in Chennai and has sought a detailed report from the city police commissioner.
According to the report published on August 25, the Kilpauk all-woman police have not initiated any action despite a complaint from the woman’s family. The report stated that the 22-year-old woman, who is mentally disabled, was molested at knifepoint by a local hoodlum and his accomplices, in front of the woman’s family.
A fortnight had passed since a complaint was filed with the Kilpauk all-woman police despite which no action was taken, the news report stated.
A petition has also been filed with the Chennai district collector.
