Covid-19 claims eight more lives in Puducherry

PUDUCHERRY: The Union territory of Puducherry registered 511 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours as of 10am on Wednesday, taking the total number of active cases to 4,264.
The positivity rate of the samples (1,296) stood at 39.4%, which is more than the national average (less than 10%).
Puducherry headquarters has the highest number of positive cases with 425 followed by its enclaves - Yanam (53), Karaikal (28) and Mahe (5).
Puducherry has 2,065 active cases under home isolation and treatment and 1,872 in various institutions, Karaikal has 57 at homes and 149 in hospital, Yanam has 28 at homes and 86 in hospital and Mahe has seven in hospital.
Eight patients, all men aged between 67 and 87 years, died of Covid-19 taking the death toll to 180. The fatality rate of the infection in the territory is 1.5%, which is less than the national average (1.8%).
The territory has so far reported 11,930 cases of which 7,486 patients recovered and were discharged from various facilities. The recovery rate is 62.8%, which is lower than the national average (76.3%).
Healthcare authorities have so far sent 67,301 swab samples for testing of which 53,950 samples tested negative.
