CISF, NDRF, cops carry out mock drill at Kolkata airport

KOLKATA: A mock security drill was conducted at the Kolkata airport on Wednesday by multiple government agencies, including CISF, NDRF, fire department, Bidhannagar Police and airport officials to check the preparedness level on detection of a radioactive material at the airport.
The mock exercise had started around 11am at the airport. A scenario was created wherein a passenger along with a radioactive material (Isotope) approached at the departure entry gate No. 2 A/B and was detected by the on duty CISF personnel through RDE limb detector installed at the departure gate.
“They informed the Security Operations Control Centre and action was taken as per the SOP. All concerned members were informed accordingly. The passenger and his baggage was checked and upon detection of the radioactive material in the bag, the man was grounded and proper disposal of the material was done,” said an airport official who was part of the drill
.
Airport officials said the mock drill did not hamper normal operations at the airport.
