Gang offered lift, robbed victims in isolated spots

Gurgaon: Gurgaon police on Monday busted a lift and loot gang which was operating from Manesar.
According to police, the gang was specialised in robbing people after offering them lift and stabbing them with knives leading to death in multiple cases.
“The gang was active in Gurgaon for the past few months and between June and August, it was involved in five incidents of murders and robberies,” a police officer said, adding that the robbers were active in Manesar and nearby areas.
The officer added that the members of the gang used to offer lift to people late in the evening on their bike or a four-wheeler and then take them to isolated areas along the Dwarka Expressway after which they would loot the victims and stab them with knives.
ACP (crime) Preet Pal Sangwan told TOI that the crime unit of Farrukhnagar led by inspector Inderveer on Monday managed to arrest two persons from Geeta Bhavan in New Colony area. The accused were identified as Ashok Chauhan (24) from Mainpuri in UP and Mahesh (25) from Bihar.
“The accused were involved in multiple number of crimes,” the ACP said, adding that a third member of the gang is already in jail.
He said that police are trying to find out the previous records of the accused.
“They all have a criminal background and they used to murder or injure their target victims after the robbery,” Sangwan added.
They were arrested in connection with a double murder case of June 28.
Police said, a husband and wife were killed in Surya Vihar area after a robbery.
During the interrogation, the arrested accused admitted to have killed Guddu and Renu at their house.
“They tied them with a rope and killed them before looting Rs 16,000 cash. The criminals also admitted to have committed four other crimes in between June and August,” a police officer said.
Guddu Singh and his wife Renu were living in a rented accommodation in Surya Vihar area for the last one year. Guddu was running a tours and travel company.
On June 28 police received a call from their neighbour Ravinder about the decomposed body of a couple.
Guddu’s body was found near a bed while Renu’s body was found in another room.
“The couple’s hands and legs were tied with a rope and they had multiple stab injuries,” the officer added.
